10 Gals to Watch in ’09

January 8th, 2009

So I saw a preview for the movie The Women, that just came out on DVD, and I must admit it made me cringe. Something about it rubbed me the wrong way..perhaps the fact that it’s just a blatant buddy movie for women age 35+. Not that I don’t love chick flicks. In fact I rented the mega-girlie The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants II last week (or as my dad liked to call it, The Sisterhood of the Stretch Pants) while on vacation at The Glorious and Relaxing Land of Grammy and Bah. Anyhoo, it got me thinking about some of the famous gals that I admire right now. So just for kicks I put together this short list of 10 gals to watch ’09. In my humble opinion, these HeyGirls have it goin’ on…

Tina Fey
She’s hilarious and wicked funny. She rocked the pre-election hoopla with her uber-famous Palin impression. She’s won Emmys for her work on 30 Rock and she recently scored a $5MM book deal. One of her closest peeps is the also hilarious Amy Poehler. All that, and the girl is also one hot momma who has graced the cover of Vanity Fair. There’s a lot to envy about Tina. And something tells me she’s just warming up.

Michelle Obama
Just for her fashion sense ALONE I can’t wait for this gal to move into the White House…and to see what she wears for the inauguration.

Oprah
Even if you’re a billionaire and one of the most famous people on the planet, you still fall off the fitness wagon from time to time. Oprah will be brave enough to hop back on that treadmill and show us how it’s done.

Whitney from MTV’s The Hills
A guilty pleasure fo’ sho. I’ve watched The Hills from time to time and now Whitney has her own show about her big career move to NYC. (and p.s. call me crazy but are Heidi and Spencer not the perfect villain couple!?). I’m hoping adorable Whitney will stay sweet on the mean streets of New York.

Stephanie Meyer
Please, please, please let her write another book for The Twilight Series. I tore through those four books like a bag of tortilla chips and a jar of salsa on Cinco de Mayo. Stephanie, if you don’t write one soon, I’ll be forced to watch more reality T.V….including “The Hills.”

Beyonce and Janet Jackson

I put these girls together because based on what I just read in the entertainment news last week, there might be some sort of showdown between them soon. Apparently Beyonce said something that came off as derogatory toward the Jackson family and Janet is P.O.’d. Personally, I think the two should work it out in a dance off at the next Grammys. Seriously. Would that not be fantastic!?!?! Miss Jackson (if you’re nasty) against the booty-shakin’ Miss Knowles!?!?! Now that would be so, so TiVo worthy (who am I kidding, I still use a VCR).

Christina Applegate
This is a serious one and a shout out to one tough gal. Just a few weeks after undergoing a preventative double mastectomy this past summer, she went on Good Morning America to share her story about her battle with breast cancer. I thought that was very brave and a tremendous show of strength. I think she’ll be helping quite a lot of women from here on out.

Wonder Woman

My husband bought me the box set of season two for Christmas, so I’ll literally be watching a lot of Wonder Woman this year. Darn it, those boots are cool.

You
Make it a great year doll. Try something new! Do something for yourself! And mean it!

Happy ’09!
